Not sure the exact position of this fire http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-26617891 but if it is east of pontsticill, that's the jk day 2 area up in smoke, hope the planner's site stakes survive, area could be even quicker with all the scrub burnt...

From BOF News today:
http://www.thejk.org.uk/jk2014/index.php?pg=246
Issue 1 of the Final Details may now be downloaded from the link below. There will be 2 subsequent issues published on the 28th March and the 8th April. Updates and changes will be made clear.
The purpose of putting these up with 4 weeks still to go, is to give Competitors an opportunity to plan their weekend and if necessary make any adjustment to their entry and additional requirements before the final closing date of the 30th March.

Re: JK 2014
No temporary road signs! Hahahahah.
Orienteers are usually so bad at navigating to events. We think we know roughly where it is, head to there and hope for some signs, having failed to read the information properly.
A bit like my orienteering come to think of it.

"British Orienteering Federation Annual General Meeting 2014
.
Please bring your membership card for admittance, further details are available on the British Orienteering website."
Didn't they stop issuing membership cards last year?

'Whistles recommended for the Sprint'
How 'dodgy' or remote is the area?

re whistles on Sprint, it's covering a bit of H&S probably, in that they cannot say "you do not have to carry a whistle" so the "recommended" covers this, whistles will not be checked, trust me - I am the start team leader!. Carry one for your own safety though, always better to have one than not to, so to attract attention, accidents do happen.

Hahaha hilarious

Well that's one way of ensuring no one puts up an argument - but on the other hand the meeting is likely to be inquorate.
(...and yes I had a quick look for the 'further details' but couldn't find any!)

Aren't you supposed to login to the BO site using your membership number
and print off your own card. Then you can laminate it and take it along.
The only thing is you need to remember your password (or ask for
a new one).
(I wonder how many requests for password reminders it will take to crash the BO host ?

Fact check:
When you renew your membership, you are sent an email titled "Your British Orienteering membership card". It contains an attachment called "renewcard2014" which contains, unsurprisingly, your British Orienteering membership card.
Further details: http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/page/agm (the Final Details are a pretty good summary of this though)

Re: JK 2014
Getting back to the JK ...
... or at least the lead up to it, more info about the "supporting events" has been confirmed today. See http://www.thejk.org.uk/jk2014/index.php?pg=234 for details.
Thus you can start your JK week with the Level B BOK Trot on Sunday (yes, it's in Wales, and in the Wye Valley - the birthplace of tourism too!), take in a Level C event on Wednesday in the highly technical Clydach Terrace and use Wednesday and/or Thursday for training at Mynydd LLangatwg on terrain very similar to that for JK2 and 3.
And, of course, discover just how attractive South Wales can be at the same time

This is perfectly correct. Unfortunately many of us joined up before email was ubiquitous, or changed our email address without realising that it had become BO's method of issuing cards, or had our email addresses randomly redistributed by a BO data migration.
(It's taken me a couple of years to work out who was getting reminders for what and to whichever email address, to request numerous password resets and finally to get us all renewed before the CSC / JK / Harvesters. The BO staff I've dealt with have been unfailingly polite and helpful, but something was sadly wrong with the original implementation.)

Re: JK 2014
I can absolutely confirm that I have not received an email with my 2014 membership card on it - I did however receive one last year for 2013 and a very nice Christmas card in December. I also received reminders for the 'children's' memberships which I duly forwarded to them to do with as they pleased.I pay by direct debit.
But definitely no cards for 2014! Has anyone else had theirs?
