Re: NORT / World Cup
So, knock-out sprint today. A format that some athletes don't like, but presumably TV producers do like.
Starts at 9am (10am local) from Sigtuna just outside Stockholm. Looks like the best 24 make it through to 3 Semifinals of 8 runners in each, and then the top 2 from each semi (plus 2 lucky losers*) go to the final of 8 runners.
Semis are between about 2pm and 3:30pm, finals at 4:20/4:38pm, and all are GPS tracked and with live TV.
* yes, "lucky losers" is what the bulletin says. Perhaps they mean fastest losers, or perhaps some other criteria...
Anyway, good luck Team GBR.

"Lucky losers" is the term XC skiing uses in its knock-out sprint format - of which this is so obviously an attempt to copy. And yes it does mean fastest losers - perhaps those who were lucky enough to be in a fast heat.

Re: NORT / World Cup
Or unlucky to be in the same Semi as either a) the better/faster orienteers or b) the best sprinters from final control.
BTW (to lazy to read Bull 4) how much gaffling are we expecting?
If I am reading the results correctly it looks like Ralph was top male Brit in 27th so we have no representation in Men's, but Cath, Tess and Sarah all made it through to Women's SFs.

So Cat and Sarah are both off at 1417 (1517 local) in the same semi as Simone. Be lucky!
Tess is at 1447 (1547 local).

Re: NORT / World Cup
Well I hope its just the tracking that is out - over the 'shall not be crossed hedge' to #1 and then a split with half of the first semi-finalists ploughing through the built up out of bounds...

Re: NORT / World Cup
Ooh, that was close, Simone had to sprint to get 2nd
Edit: and now they've adjusted her time, and she was 3rd. She needs to "get lucky"

Re: NORT / World Cup
Semi 2 was way slower, so Simone should be ok. Nightmare for Billstam - went for a gap, but it didn't exist and she was trapped. And the four Swiss in that semi are all out.

Semi 3 was fast, but Tessa misses out by 2.3 seconds I think.

I think Simone got the 2nd lucky loser spot in 8:46.6, and Tess was 8:52.3. Close, but not quite.
