YES but didn't cost me much time...I was thinking at this scale I am going to have to squeeze through sideways.
But better than that i heard of someone who wanted to follow an index contour through a building because they thought it looked like a passage. Funny what your brain does under pressure.

I certainly looked hard at one slightly ill coloured passage through a building before realising it was a contour. Haven't seen a map since the run - to see if it creates the same impression in the calm of non-racing conditions.

Thoroughly enjoyable though. My B Final course was particularly entertaining.

Enjoyable events - thanks to all involved.
Problems were all my own fault - esp. failing to hold it together on what I thought was an easier leg today. Punished by dropping from 3rd to 16th in one leg.
The only passage problem I had on the sprint was one in the final - clear on the map with 2 right-angle bends but looked like a dead end on the ground (as it would, wouldn't it ?) so I chickened out and didn't go down it. My fault again.

Shouldn't a World Ranking Event have offset litho printed maps?

Look at the spiral ramp round the monument at control 76. On Routegadget, it is clear that the lines on the NE/SW sides of the small square to the south of the monument are a bridge symbol, and the lines on the NW/SE sides are a dotted underpass symbol. On the printed map, because laser printing breaks up obliquely orientated lines, it is hard to differentiate any of the 4 lines. I know of one person who failed to realize they could go down from the monument and went back up losing a great deal of time.

Agree the print quality a bit doubtful for this level of event, but I'm sure BOF are well aware of this by now. The event itself was fantastic. Very well put together with a lot of effort on show. I can see now why the entry fee was £18 and it was well earned!

Thought the planner did well to put on heats and finals with different character and with the final being the more technical of the two.

Incidentally kudos to Cat Taylor, and not just for winning!

Agreed. A weekend where the youngsters set the pace, and the older stars responded in style! Great to see some new names on the Saturday trophies though.
