Looks like more than just a few errors as stated on the website to me.

Most likely 100% of the juniors and 40% of the seniors (excluding the 21s).

It depends on the demographics within each age group but if it is the case that we've all decreased by a year rather than increasing a year, it will affect all juniors except those below 10 (who I think are officially M/W10) and anyone who should be in the first or second year of an age group. Assuming an even distribution and ignoring the M/W 21 group that would (as sjc said above) be around 40% of adults - so probably under 50% (but not much).
Hopefully the error isn't at Darley Dale but with the printers in which case normal practice would be a free reprint.
In case it is a BOF mistake who is asking the question at the AGM?

I doubt it is a problem at the printers, as surely they will just print what they are told to and will not be doing any age calculations.
I suspect someone somewhere thought they were adding 1 to everyone's age when in fact they added 1 to their year of birth.
Years ago, a mate of mine fell foul of something similar when underage drinking. Expecting to be asked his age, he swiftly added 1 to his true age before replying to the boys in blue. Unfortunately they asked his year of birth and he added 1 to that .....

Very likely to be a programming error. Very small errors can lead to very big problems. One of my team once typed a 2 instead of a 1 - the wrong data was used in a computation and it crashed a whole national planning database for one of the UKs largest companies plus all the other systems running on the mainframe - twice.

Of course the real error was in not properly testing the software change. Given that testing generally finds 90 % of errors a system where 1000 errors were found in testing will generally have more faults still to be found than one with only 10 uncovered. This doesn't give a good prognosis for BOF systems.

Did you log in and go to renew or did you click join?

British Orienteering's website is not clear, several of our members last year joined as new members by mistake.

batty, I've had the same problems as you. Seems some gremlin in the BOF system doesn't want us to renew.

This is whilst logged in and clicking the renew link presented in the member area.

To get it to work I logged-out, went to this page http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/page/renew , then logged-in as requested and followed the steps - seems to work fine.

Please feedback the problem to Mike Hamilton as well as discussing the problem here. If BOF are not told the bug will probably not get fixed.

I had problems 2 years ago attempting to renew on a Sunday. We suspect the banking sofware was off line when the request for payment was requested by BOF. BOF never the less confirmed renewal but the money was never actually collected. As a result my membership lapsed.

The software seems still to be quirky. I would renew by cheque ~ might be slower but it's safer !
