Thats too good an offer to refuse. If noone else volunteers for Scotland i'll do it, although i might need to badger some old heads for advice.
I notice that an ultravets category is now on the cards so presumably there will be an update on the protocols from the cartel at some point!

I can put together a list of Southern ones (along the lines of the Yorkshire league)

That sounds very interesting. Like others, I love urban orienteering but am not in a position to travel the UK to compete. I would definitely be interested in taking part in a Scottish league if enough events could be found. Wouldn't they have to comply to the same format, though, as in age-categories?

I would be happy to help you Jayne as I love the urbans but as a relative novice to the sport, not confident enough to take it on myself alone.

Re: 2012 Urban Speculation
I am sure I can plan another Daresbury Sprint Jamboree, but since I think the technical forest sprint is a key part of it then I don't think it would be suitable.
Also the objective of the event was to be fun and not so serious.
If anyone has any more ideas for different types of sprint then let me know. We have 5 last time, can we bring it to 6 this next time?
For those who weren't there we had:
The events we had were:
A: Mini-sprint: 1:4000, 1.5km
B: Micro-sprint: 1:1000, 650m
C: Nano-sprint (i.e. maze): 1:100, 100m
D: Score-sprint: 1:4000, 10 mins
plus a technical sprint final to finish (longer than 12-15 mins since it was mini-mass-start.
Of course any subsequent event we'd have to ensure that O-children weren't climbing on bike-sheds, people weren't running behind fork-lift trucks and we kept Kiwis away from car barriers. Maybe the H+S police will let us have another one in 2012 or 2013!

Sounds like a REAL lot of fun - where's Daresbury?? Only slightly comparable event I've been to would be Cliffhanger - and I LOVE that event!!
Back on topic - anyone volunteering to keep the rolling calendar updated as Spookster (I think) did last year?
and.........when are the Nopesport Urban League events going to be published?

The Brighton City Race (http://www.brightoncityrace.org.uk/) will happen again next December - not sure of exact date yet. As a mass-start event held at night it's an anathema to the Ranking Working Party but perhaps worthy of urban league points.

I think there may be a WRE (Wrekin, not World Ranking) event in Ludlow on sat 26 May - the day before Brown Clee - so worth making a weekend of.

The SYO Sprint Relays are on Saturday 1st September (the day before Lincoln) and are in Endcliffe Student Village which is urban. First chance to try the mixed-sprint-relay format that could be in future World Championships.

Re: 2012 Urban Speculation
From Caz's list - potential Southern League events...
I've heard rumour of another one that may happen in early August.
Questions:
1) Is it an issue that three of them are over the same weekend (it would probably be best 4 races out of 7).
2) Would it be feasible (and fairer) to score based on rankings points. Looking at my own scores in the Yorkshire/Nopesport leagues the races I did best in were the ones with fewest competitors (kind of obvious) but the respective ranking points I got seem to remove this bias.
From the races I removed I'd say there could be a Midlands league too! and I'm upset that Huntingdon is the day before the London Marathon (which I'm running).

The Porthleven Urban Race (featuring a brand new map by yours truly) is provisionally scheduled for Sat 23rd June. I can say with some confidence that it will be comfortably the most Southerly orienteering event in the UK next year, and possibly the most Southerly in the UK ever
