Yup, orienteering postponed, though I had decided not to go anyway. We have lots of fresh water, torches, and are a little bit scared now - she seems to be tracking faster than they anticipated. But they usually err a bit on the cautious side with these things "prepare for the worst, hope for the best." Fingers crossed!
Enjoy the White Rose everybody!

I know, what a week! We were in the lift and didn't feel the quake, but it knocked over a couple of bottles in the lab. Got evacuated for half an hour though!

Hurricanes are proof that communisim beats capitalism

Cuba suffer as much as any during the hurricane season but there are very few deaths or even serious injuries because of the level of civil defence throughout the country....
I was once drinking a beer in a hurricane hit town and told I couldn't get a glass to drink out of because of the dangers.... but they were more than happy to sell me a beer in a bottle

Well, 1938 was the last time anything of this magnitude hit CT, so you can forgive them for not being that prepared! But at least we know our 100 year old house has made it through one before!

JC ! It's a Bank Holiday weekend punters event

PS - if it's that important then you should've put a protest in, got the course voided & then it would be all to play for that all important podium place tomorrow

Re: White Rose
Not at the white rose this year as not a bank hol up here and schools all back, but I agree with Follyfoot this time. If I'm organising an event then I feel it's an essential part of my job to ensure all folk who pre-entered in time have the map of the course they requested. Different if only EOD, then if you're late you take what's left or recycle maps, but a large pre-entry event should have a way of ensuring only surpless maps are used for EODs and last minute course changers.

Re: White Rose
Strange how Follyfoot is keen to get on the Short Blue Podium.... but White Rose is in age classes
prizes will be awarded to the aggregate result over the two days of first three finishers in each age class.

Re: White Rose
I had no problem getting runs on the Blue course and thanks for an excellent event as always EBOR. Mrs Freefall wasn't quite so lucky, as she ended up helping give CPR to the casualty on Day 1. She did enjoy her run out today. We hear that after being whisked away by Sea King (an hour to arrive) he was delivered to Intensive Care and fingers crossed he survives. Very fortunate that an orienteering doctor also happened to be running past and helped out. First aid seems to change every year. Makes map shortages and podium places seem unimportant really.
