Well here's the challenge...

My guess is 4km round by road versus 1km across by ????
Can it be done!!
How about special Scottish 6 Day wellies for everyone!

the Ford is clearly marked on the OS map but it looks a bit gloopy on the satellite
lovely photo Buzz - let's hope there's not too much snow on the tops when we're there.

Re Greywolf's idea: Do you get given an orienteering map prior to being thrown across then navigate your way to the start?
And also I would love a webcam and gps tracking set up for it!

Re: Scottish 6 Days - Day 5
Good news - it's official. No long walk on Day 5. There will be parking 500 metres from Assembly. Because space might be limited anyone who would like a pleasant bike ride can park near the event campsite (Lachie's fields) and pedal round the few km. Campers/campervan people and those staying at Tralee are asked to use the coach service we provide. To avoid queuing for buses on the way home crossing the estuary by the marked ford is an option - definitely from 1430 hrs but probably before. It is 6 inches deep water at worst and the mud/gravel is quite firm but smelly. Extensive user testing took place on Tuesday - I would take a toddler across.

So you mean most people are just going to drive round the road - I'm a bit disappointed - I'm also a bit worried I'm going to get knocked off my bike now with all this traffic

I hope it's a low tide then. I had my first dinghy sailing lesson here

Plan B (or whatever it is) is now discouraging bikes but we cannot stop you should you choose to take this scenic option. Looks like the bus and the smelly mud if you don't make it there early enough.

Hope banning bikes from Day 5 doesn't become official policy - Mrs B and I are planning to cycle all six days.
