Routegadget for Ripon courses A-C is now up:
http://www.claro.routegadget.co.uk/clar ... d=7&kieli=
A couple of points for those coming to it for the first time. The map used for route gadget is the unamended version, so there are a few anomalies/missing features: the field to the north of 12-13 on A (also 13-14 on B and 12-13 on C) was out of bounds, and the large area of olive green on the final leg (Spa Garden Hotel grounds) was in fact in bounds for the event.
Some planner's comments on routes etc.
Course A/B 2-3: shortest route was to the south through the estate and attacking control from gate into grounds due south of control (the fence adjacent to gate along edge of school grounds was marked and is uncrossable).
Course A 8-9: route along riverside was blocked east of the middle bridge by works being done to the river, and shown with an uncrossable barrier on the amended map. Quickest route was as straight as possible through the estates, and then the southern choice once crossing the river.
Course A 10-11: fence to the west of control 10 was uncrossable - quickest route was back out to the north east of the school grounds.
Course A 11-12/B 12-13/C 11-12: shortest route was round to the west approaching through narrow alley almost directly under red line for next leg (broken on competition map).
Next leg on all courses: shortest route was to double back through alley, then north round north side of field, approaching control from north (the alley to the north of the one mentioned here, marked with uncrossable fences, was amdnded to a dead end for the race).
Next leg on all courses: shortest route was to stick as close as possible to straight line first of all through estate of terraced houses, then cross road under canopies to east side of large buiilding (supermarket).
A 14-15: shortest route was the western line
A19-20,B16-17,C3-4: amended map included a narrow alleyway coming into control from west side. Very fractionally, this was the quickest route, but only by a few seconds, and the western end of the alley (covered) was very easy to miss.
A 21-22: wall to south of 21 is no longer there - quickest route was SE through park, round north side of cathedral and round east end of uncrossable wall
A22-23: two routes about equal speed: both south then west along road to major roundabout, then either round to north or along south side of river. Latter slightly longer but quicker running.
A24-25/B21-22: east and west routes about equal speed, eastern slightly longer
last leg on all courses: shortest route was through gate into hotel grounds then south to single dashed line path, into estate, then west along road and approach control from south. Marginally quickest for me too. Very few people took it though.
B7-8/C7-8: both legs quickest if approach control from north (on the amended map there is a gap marked between the L-shaped wall and the small building (garage) to the north of 8. I was surprised to find staying south of the uncrossable fence and doubling back was a wee bit slower.
C8-9: quickest crossing bridge NW of number 8.
B10-11/C9-10: quickest was east round uncrossable wall, round north side of cathedral, and then up through paths and park, approaching control from west.
B19-20: northern route shorter, but both north and south routes about equal speed if executed smoothly.
Hope these all make sense!

Thanks, really interesting to read those comments - especially as I took a different route to the optimum one for a good half of those legs mentioned! I never even saw some of those (e.g. going east of the cathedral) until you highlighted them.
Stop talking, start running.

Yes, really interesting - and it shows some good planning when I finally do my routegadget and find routes I'd missed (after thinking I'd been pretty clean)
