Re: Guildford City Race
Great race, thank you to the organisers for a nice day discovering Guildford from a slightly different perspective. It was more hilly than many of the other urban races in the past!
The organiser was also great on the admin side of things - when entering I discovered that DRONGO had somehow disappeared from the Fabian4 database and entered as a different club. Subsequently both Adrian Moir and the GO organiser being very helpful in reinstating the club in the database and changing my entry.
One constructive criticism (already discussed with the finish officials) for GO is that I missed the information about the light blue and red shading on the map/legend table. I read all the final details in advance and I did read the information on the table but missed this part (the writing was rather small, as I realised when I went to look after my race). I was lucky to come across another orienteer in the early part of the course who knew the score when I was confused (a panicked "what the heck is the blue shading?" from me). Nevertheless, I continued to think that the pink shading was out of bounds, having remembered that in the final details it was mentioned that the police specifically asked for some road junctions to be out of bounds, so I thought these road bits were "out of bounds" not "busy with traffic". I would recommend that in future such uncommon shading be printed on the map legend or specifically mentioned by the start officials to every competitor.

Re: Guildford City Race
I thought it was clearly mentioned about the screening both at the tent and at the start by the officials. And although it was quite cool to have as another factor to consider in route choice, I don't reckon I changed any decisions based on it. Still faster to run through crowds/cars and shout loudly or wave arms wildly i reckon.
Thanks guildford for a good fun event. 2 events in 2 weeks where I've turned up on the train and walked to the start. I like this!

Exactly the same thought process as I went through, though I had the added complication the first time I hit it on the ground of wondering why the pedestrian crossing was 'out of bounds', yet it was ok to cross through the traffic a bit further up the road!

I'll second that.

And it works for you; that was a very good run Tessa.
The London parkrace events are also train friendly: http://parkrace.org/
