I think the symbols are okay - most of us aren't used to running on ISSOM maps, so aren't familiar with them.
But looking at the scanned maps, it's interesting that IOF rules don't appear to require connecting lines to be broken when crossing "uncrossable" features. (BOF rules recommend that they should be - AppB 3.1.7). Not quite sure of the logic here eg 9-10 on the men's course is broken for the fences but not for the wall; 11-12 isn't broken for the hedges. Breaks in the lines might make the symbols more obvious.
