It would be good to address the confused position over entries; I know people who are still considering coming if the Covid situation becomes clearer.

The long-standing closing date was 30 June. The SI entries page still says mid-page that entries close 30 June, and quotes prices up to 30 June. But at the top of the page it now says that entries closed on 16 June, even though the limit of 2200 hasn't been reached

TBF it seems fair and sensible to close entries whilst the future of the event is decided.

One assumes they will be keen to publish the decision ASAP to remove uncertainty for everyone, including replanning a week’s holiday most will have committed to already, if the event is cancelled.

As to the cancellation policy it seems that if a competitor cancels there is a refund less an 8% admin charge. If the S6D organisers cancel the event there is a refund less a 4.8% admin charge.

Having read today's news update I can probably answer my own question. Currently planning for 2x3 days of 1000 (but ready for 1x6 if permitted). So with entries already over 2000, even if not at the previous maximum of 2200, it makes sense to close. I guess there is a hope / expectation that withdrawals (and/or no shows) will reduce numbers to below 2000.

One final thought about the worst-case scenario: if the whole event does have to be cancelled, please can you give entrants an option to waive their refund. My family would gladly do so - we don't want the S6D company or SOA to be out of pocket, and we recognise just how much work has been put into this.

Agree with Crex and I would add that entrants should also have the option to decline a refund for the 3 days they don’t get to run, if the 2x3 day contingency is adopted.

Brilliant news (there hasn't been much recently)!

I agree with Crex and RoT - the S6D company shouldn't run at a loss and we'd be more than happy to support the SOA or any other organisations deemed worthy to receive a share of any profits. Would be nice to get the maps of the days we missed at some stage though.

Presumably the WRE status for Day 5 (applied for according to S6D website) will be rescinded if we go ahead with the 2x3 day format?
Not sure whether UKOL status for Days 2 and 3 can remain with one being allocated to each of the Group competitions?

Sorry I couldn't spill the beans any earlier to Nopesporters! I am just back - a day at Creag Meagaidh meeting up with NatureScot to go through the Agreement followed up by a long trip up the hill to the start areas.

Well done Freefall and everyone involved for arriving at this eminently reasonable (to me) Plan A and Plan B.
I would far rather have 3 days orienteering than none.
... and also well done for following protocol and waiting for the ability to make an official announcement to all rather than leaking it in advance like governments seem to do with lots of their pronouncements.

Just one question if I may - the email says people will be allocated to Group A or Group B days by club - can Freefall please confirm my assumption this will be based on requested "start block club" rather than "actual club".
e.g. I have entered 5 people from one family, 3 different actual clubs but all requesting in the entry to be treated as the same "start block club".
