perhaps - but removing long and middle qualifiers and only adding a 12-15 minute sprint leg makes it easier for individuals to do more (or even all 5) events - the IOF's objectives are to limit and concentrate participation and success, not spread them around

Or give the best orienteers in the world a decent chance at becoming world champion

I never understood why the 7-person rule was there, it simply shows the IOF don't believe their own rhetoric about "different disciplines". On the other hand, since GBR could only muster six women, we're not well placed to complain.

Yes, but that rule may not last long. At the IOF Presidents' Conference there was mention of removing the rule, and a quick "straw poll" to test opinion. Lots of nations were in favour of removing it, and one was against.

Yes. But IOF has also now implemented a procedure whereby its events will not be allowed to clash with each other, or the established multi-day events. That only applies to IOF events not yet awarded, so not 2015.
