BOC2008 will mostly be on area not used at this year's 6-day. Some of this appears on the WOC 76 relay map, but it's going a long way east of thatso no-one will get a preview.
From having simply run in the area it will be excellent running in what looks like great detail. I hope the 6-day will be enjoyable but anticipate BOC being in another class of enjoyable running anf technical challenge altogether. I believe Steve Smirthwiate is planning and that means it will be of the highest class.

Robin Harvey deservedly got an MBE in part for surveying / coordinating the WOC 1976 maps using pretty sound survey techniques that a year earlier he had graphically elucidated in a textbook (Mapmaking for Orienteers), the fieldwork sections of which I still regard as the mapmaker's bible that no one else has ever since improved on.

The BOC 2008 area is mostly completely new to orienteering - wit hjust a short section at the end of the courses on this year's 6-day map. The area is the white section under Steve's left hand. The terrain is a fantastic mixture of highly detailed areas and large smooth hills - demanding constantly changing speed of running and techniques. For training you should visit Lossie and Roseisle Forests - contact the National Orienteering Centre http://www.nationalorienteeringcentre.org
BOC 2008 will be an awesome orienteering experience - come and try it and then move to the Moray coast area!!

Culbin: brilliant area, fast and flat, none of this munro-bagging masquerading as orienteering e.g. SOL3, and it's massive - you could have 3 days (6 days??) racing there easy ... the only downside of it hosting S6D & BOC2008 is the embargo on a great place for a training run

I have been to Culbin twice - 1977 six days and the SOL a couple of years ago. Awesome, and to think until now we have only been in a small area of this vast forest. Getting into the East has been a big ambition since WM76 and this must be the most eagerly awaited event for some time. What is hiding in that vast area of white on the map above?

Last night we had our annual Culbin forest run in uncharacteristicly wet weather. It's head down and all on tracks so no problem there, but the terrain to the side looks like the best of Lossie, except that it's not a narrow band. Roll it on.

For Eddie & other running in Culbin last night... looks like you are dq'd from BOC 2008. Below is taken from BOF Rules Group meeting on March 17th:
It was agreed, after lengthy discussion, to simplify the Rule on embargoed areas. All
British Championship events (i.e. BOC, BRC, BNC, B Middle, B Sprint) and the JK
should not be used for 24 months before the event, and the area would be embargoed
for that period.

Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)
