Postal entries for the National Event on 3rd December close on 20th November, but we're still able to take internet online entries until 30th November (just 3 days before the event ).

However, please don't wait until the last minute to enter online, as this means you probably won't get your requested start time, and in some cases we might not have enough maps on your preferred course.

So, please enter online by 24 November so that I can include you in the first start list & seeding check, and make sure we have enough maps for everyone.

Assembly is here, and the two starts are 600m and 1.2km away, whilst the finish is 200m away. Final Details will be on the SYO website in the next few days.

The weather will be cold if it's sunny, and really cold if it isn't! Yes, it's exposed.

Why does the BOF fixtures calender try to ensure that the last national event of the year is held on high, exposed open moorland ?

Could someone PLEASE post a copy of an old map of Burbage Moor for those who have never been to give us an idea what we are in for??
Even just part of the area be nice.

Part of the fun is going to a new area and not knowing exactly what you are in for.

There have already been some hints about what it will be like in the final details and the comments about exposed (don't agree with that bit really as there are plenty of rocks to shelter behind when the snow comes).

Typical Peak District moorland, many small tracks (many probably not marked and made by the climbers who like this area for the hundreds of boulders). Loads of nice deep heather and the obligatory deep wet peat hags. Should be nice.

Hope not all the 600 m run from my last control to the finish is not over pathless heather though....

Heather ain't deep on burbage - and not really any peat hags.

Depends how tall you are whether you consider the heather deep or not, accept there are not many of the Kinder Plateau type peat hags, maybe deep cut streams would have been a better description (not many of those either thinking about it). Pretty duff description all round then, sorry.

Out of interest, does anyone know if any part of the Kinder Plateau is available for orienteering?

maps of kinder have and are being made as we type... not sure about orienteering access yet though.

I'd hate to be the one who had to map all the peat groughs on Kinder, but it would be a challenging area. The moorland north of the A57 by Hagg Farm west of Ladybower is mapped but I don't know about permissions.

According to a report issued today by the Mountain Weather Information Service, for the Peak District, Sunday will have "frequent showers, and very severe winds will make walking very difficult where exposed. You could be blown over. Severe wind chill."

Should be fun...
