0007 weekend

I assume people are aware of the fact that the Harris Relays at the 0007 weekend are UK relay league (if that's what the website means by 'UK Relay Cup').

In that case, isn't it rather strange that by default you enter as an individual and will be made into a team by the organisers?

Competitors for the team event should enter and pay for themselves individually. Open teams will have 4 runners per team whilst all others will have 3 per team. If you wish to nominate your team mates for the event, please include the name, age class, and club of each runner in the box supplied, a team name, and the class in which you wish to compete. All 3 or 4 team members need to be in the class range defined for a course (or be running up), to be considered competitive in that race. If you do not have a preferred set of team mates, we will make up teams on your behalf. The basis of how the teams are to be allocated has yet to be determined.

i was wondering about that.

not being available for 0007-weekend i hadnt bothered looking at the website, but i recall that in 2004 the Harris race was given UKRL status until it was replaced by British Relay Champs.

I have not spotted anything official on the format of this years UKRL. With the inclusion of the 0007-Harris there are 5 competitions. Is it still best 3 to count, or is it 4 from 5? Have i missed something on BOF website/Focus?

Seems a strange format to be part of the UKRL schedule, especially with the cross country race on the end for the open class.

OK, so I have read the details. And for this round of the UK Relay Cup 3 people start at the same time, and have to do a course, and get the remaining controls once each between them. The course can be done in any order. And when the 3rd one gets back your 4th person goes out on a cross-country course.

What the hell is that all about?

Why do they feel the need to add all this gimmicky rubbish?

What is wrong with having a normal relay?

Why is this in the UK Relay League?

It doesn't appear to have been advertised as a UK Relay League very well. I asked my club captain if he knew if we were sending any teams, and he didn't even know about it full stop!

I've done a Harris relay before, and they are good fun, but i don't think that this event should be considered as a serious event, certainly not in the UK Relay League. (not suggesting that people shouldn't do it, cos it will be good, just that it shouldn't be classified as a UK Relay event).

If you can have a mtbo in the uk cup I see no reason for not having a Harris relay in the uk relay league. just a pitty I am otherwise commited as the times I have done it before (all army events in the dark) it has been great fun.

I'm proposing a new venue for a leg of UK Relay League 2007. It'll be in Disneyland, Paris. It'll be known as a Mickey Mouse Relay. Bound to be approved by BOF et al.

Can anyone tell SuperSaint's ignorant club captain where to find the information about the 2006 UK relay league.

The BOF link takes us to the 2002 league, and the 2003 BOF guidelines only refer to BRC, JK, Scottish and Harvester.

So he's ignorant because he knew nothing about it being part of the UK Relay league but you can't find where it is either?

I had no idea it was either until I'd seen this thread and I'm NOC club captain. Am I ignorant also?

the other thing I was wondering about with regard to the 0007 - seems like it's the british elite middle distance champs but no british elites are actually going?

I suppose it'll give me a chance to improce on my 47th place from last year

that'll be something to do with it not being a selection race, clashing with tio mila, being the weekend before the european champs and perhaps not in the greatest terrain?

0007 Harris Relay

If it’s possible I would like to contribute to this thread.
Firstly I would like to stress that I have nothing to do with the Day 3 Event so I am not speaking in any official capacity but I did plan the Harris that did not happen in 2004.
This was an experiment to add variety to the fixtures– if it work well that would be great if not….
As correspondents have noted informal Harris Relays are fun why should a more serious race not work? The format puts lots of runners into the forest at the same time and I had hoped to recreate a feeling of the Spring Cup Relay. It also allow’s teams with mixed ability runners to be competitive. Adding the extra cross- country legs (I had two for the men and one for the girls) was to add the Spectator interest. The format would also allow quite large teams (6) to race without too long an elapsed time span. My original plan to run one mixed class was perhaps a bridge too far. Incidentally it took about a day to plan the British Relays rather longer.
To some of the correspondents who I suspect are rather younger than me why not stay open minded, run the race and then add the comments?
Sarum are a great up and coming club, doing loads for Juniors and I think Day 1 is there first venture into promoting a National fixture – lets give them some encouragement. Yes Scottish terrain is fantastic it’s a real shame that we don’t have a Culbin in Wiltshire. The last time we had a big race in this locality was the British Sprint at Ham Hill (which I did plan) comments were good and my view is that Fonthill will be much more testing than many will think.
