Not surprising as linked to the World Masters Games, but entry fees (at current exchange rates) for one:-
- Estonia 2016 c.£145 inc transport to events
- N Zealand 2017 c.£210, plus transport from park & ride hub into forest.
It is costly enough getting there (from anywhere!), without this entry fee increase. And the website is really user friendly - not.

What a surprise
And when a public meeting expressed concerns over the linking of the 2 events we were given a guarantee that entry fees would not be higher

And what is especially galling is that "WMG2017 will collect an additional surcharge of NZD$69 (about £33) for each Orienteering athlete, as part of the rights to host the WMOC". This presumably goes to IOF. So, not content with compromising the event by making it part of WMG, IOF are forcing us to pay more than any other sport.

I don't think it goes to the IOF but morel likely to the WMG, which is a commercial (profit making) organization.
hop fat boy, hop!

The simple solution if you want to go is to enter all the other great events that NZ will probably put on leading up to and after the games, and have a non O holiday during WMG - losing money is the only way the IOF will learn.

Re: WMOC 2017 New Zealand
According to the OECD comparative price levels New Zealand has a score of 118%, compared to Estonia's 71%
Doing the maths, that actually makes the NZL entry fees relatively cheaper for the respective economies...

Well if you are correct, NZ will be an expensive holiday as Estonia was not cheap but Scandinavian prices.

UK scores 121% for comparison. The tables are based on USA.

wasn't there so don't know the specifics that make Estonia at same price level as Scandinavia but since I've been to Tallinn, Helsinki and Stockholm 8 or 9 times each so far this year I can't see how anyone can think Tallinn costs as much
And if Estonia is so expensive why do so many Finns still take their cars over to Tallinn for servicing etc etc
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

Agree hotel B&B was much cheaper in Tallinn, but car hire more expensive (I guess balanced by cheaper fuel cost), eating out/alcohol about the same as Sweden.

Re: WMOC 2017 New Zealand
I won't be bothering with WMOC next year. It's a squeeze to fit in between JK and BOC, will be very expensive as part of WMG but the main thing that decided it for me is the races on offer. I would be far more tempted by a Middle race rather than the pointless qualifying races for the Long final.

The Danes running the WMOC 2018 promotion stall (in Estonia) are keen for it to be introduced for WMOC 2018. Their flier says:
Middle Distance Final?
We are applying to replace LQ2 with a middle distance final race. Stay tuned to know if we will be successful.
Unusually it is Saturday to Friday (7th to 13th July 2018)

Re: WMOC 2017 New Zealand
The IOF General Assembly today decided that a Middle race should be added to the WMOC programme, starting from 2018 in Denmark.
The IOF Foot-O Commission has now been tasked with working out the detail ...
