As part of Race the Castles, we're holding the inaugural British Mixed Sprint Relay Championship on Friday night (Oct 10th). It has been decided that to include all age classes it will be a five person relay with gaffling between all courses. 1 M18-40, 2W18-40 or M45+, 1M/W16-, 1W45+or M60+ in random order. The event will be held on a small area near central Edinburgh, junior courses will not cross roads, for added tactical intigue, longer courses will have a timed-out road crossing.
Enjoy.

Re: British Mixed Sprint Relay Championship
D'oh - I'd just finished putting together a crack squad of super fit and fast urban specialists with the aim of hammering the opposition out of sight! Back to the drawing board
However, I too would welcome some enterprising club or region playing host to such a venture, I'm also looking forward to the inaugural British Urban Orienteering National Championships - any offers to stage, come on, surely someone must be interested?

Will a team have to be from the same club, or will the local Scottish clubs be hiring out their 16s .......... not sure many of us will get 16s from our clubs up to Scotland for a Friday evening!

No space for a string course element? Poor.

And when's the inaugural British Xplorer Challenge Championships going to be? Can't wait for that too.

The BXCC Committee is torn over whether the winner should be the first person to find all the animals, or whoever is first back having found the biggest animal. The second option introduces some strategy of whether to hurry back from "hippopotamus", or keep hunting in the hope there's an elephant to be had.
Do you have an opinion on this matter?

If there's a committee involved, surely there must be a camel.
Can't you lot all gatecrash the JK Xplorer and declare yourself a winner?
Southdowns had a day when seniors ran a string course.
There was the British Candle Night O champs a few years ago.
It might even be fun.

I know your comment was meant in jest, but there will never be a BUONC because a championship requires a fair course that can only be achieved by closing roads and eliminating all traffic from the competition area, and local authority road closure fees in this country would be so high that it would be prohibitively expensive. Brussels has got the right idea though with their inaugural urban race taking place on a "car free day" in the city (a concept which we don't really have). Unfortunately (for us) it clashes with this year's London City Race.
Stop talking, start running.

I don't feel I'm knowledgeable enough on this matter to comment. Street and Hoddy are the ones to ask when it comes to Hippos and Elephants, maybe they will have some good tactics?
