White Rose entries

A little over a month ago I received the following email from Fabian regarding White Rose entries

Dear Neil,

A small mix up at our end meant that we only offered you entry by colour course. This has now been rectified. If you wish to be considered for a White Rose prize you must switch to your entry to an age class. The advice to new competitors is:

You may enter by age class or by colour (course). However to be eligible for the White Rose prizes you must enter by age class (L/S/A/B). You may run up an age class if you wish (on the L/A classes only). If you prefer to run down a course (below S/B for your age), then enter the colour course directly.

I duly amended my entry at the time, but having just had a look at the entry list on Fabian I can see a lot of names entered under colours that I would expect to be competitive in age-classes, including my W10 daughter's main rival this year. You need to go to the bottom of the list to find the colour coded entries.

None of this should be necessary (I know we have discussed before the fact that the White Rose invents problems for itself when it comes to age classes), but I wouldn't want anybody to miss out on a competitive weekend. As it says, "to be eligible for the White Rose prizes you must enter by age class".

I agree Neil Conway of Aire, that Ebor seems to create problems for themselves, and it should have been simply a matter of entering the appropriate class in the first place.
One wonders though, why the 12th ranked British M40 has entered the Short course?

Any one can enter any class they like - that's the whole point.
Both me and Mr H are running courses between our long and short age class - to remain competitive we have entered age classes well below our age.

An appropriate class is the one you feel like running not the one someone else thinks you should be running. If you still want to be competitive then you slot in where you can and take your chances - good or bad.

Thanks for the defence Mrs H, but actually I don't want to. I would much rather be healthy enough to continue doing long, but it has come to the point where I have to accept that the effort of doing so is actually doing me harm. I will be jogging round the short instead.

I don't really know what point Youngladdie is trying to make. Perhaps he is just concerned for my health.

What I am wondering is why the 38th ranked M40 never enters the long.

After a number of people had entered against colours, they then changed to taking entries against classes, and told anybody who had already entered that if they wanted to be competitive then they must go onto Fabian and change their entry. It looks to me like there are a number of people who did not get this message, and are still entered against colours.

If, for example, Keith Masson is the fastest M50 on the Short Brown course, he will not get the M50L prize because he is entered on Short Brown and not M50L, even though they are the same course.

Mr H (ranked 939) will have more competition if he changed his entry to M40S, rather than just me on M35S (ranked 2393). Unless he has done this just to win a mug!

We're pinning our mug hopes on the relay - but it's going to be tough without Young Neville to do all the work - I wonder who we could get in to fill his place

yes but if Keith wants a mug he can edit his entry as he will have had the same email - don't see it as aproblem to get worked up about though

Just lost my work mug and had my eye on a replacement from the White Rose - hope no-one reminds Keith to change his entry!

Better idea - I'll change to short as I'm rapidly slipping out of the top 50 anyway, so noone can call me a mug hunter.

Or better still I could just go a buy a new mug from Tescos.
