I start this topic on behalf of the Croeso 2012 (Welsh 6 Day http://www.croesomultiday.org.uk/) organising committee ...
Our original dates were 22 - 28 July, in order not to clash with the London Olympics whose opening ceremony is on the evening of the 27th.
Lack of availability of the event centre in that week then forced us to move to the following week, the currently advertised 29 July - 4 August, thereby clashing with the first week of the Olympics. Not what we wanted, but we hoped that provision of a large screen showing the Olympics in the Event Centre would "sugar the pill" somewhat.
Due to a cancellation, we now have an opportunity to avoid this clash and revert to the original week, 22 - 28 July, but we are reluctant to change the date without consulting within the O community first.

The Olympic bike road race is coming through my home town on 28th July, so you can't win either way!

Er, I don't mind either way but you have just caught my attention and I'm really considering entering it now. My daughter even has a flat in Aber so that could be my accommodation sorted.

In fact, the football competitions (men & women) begin on 25th/26th July - before the opening ceremony!

Not bothered, would rather be doing than watching. Now if there was a clash with the Olympic orienteering then of course move, but.....

Even the remotest chance of it clashing rules it out as a potential trip for me.

Personally, I'm hoping that the Olympics will make it cheaper to get away on holiday elsewhere!

I do hope Croeso is not adversely effected by the Olympics. I think it looks like a brilliant week.
There may be potential to attract extra foreigners as they could go on to the Olympics. The athletics is the week after the current date which may well just fit well for some.

Big problem with the Olympics is that it will not be cheap getting off the island - the fares will be hiked to catch all the visitors going home/capacity will be full. Perhaps an escape would be easy early in week 1 (how tempting is that?).
The thought of a sporting holiday far away, like Ceredigion at this time is very very attractive.

With the dates as they are, it would rule out going for the whole week for me, though I might be able to manage the first 2 days.
Going to the Olympics with other members of my family would have to come first.

At least it is just the Olympics and they did not schedule the event in term time!

Well, if the dates were moved earlier, Croeso Day 2 would be the 23rd and the first Olympic event is on the 25th, so you could easily get to the first three days of Croeso anyway. So, what about the rest of the week for Olympics fanatics?
25th - Croeso rest day: you could potter down to Cardiff to see one of the three women's preliminary football matches, or you could watch this on the Big Screen in the Event Centre
26th - Croeso day 4: you could potter down to Cardiff afterwards to see one of the five men's preliminary football matches (1945 KO), or Big Screen
27th - Croeso day 5: Archery ranking rounds at Lord's followed by (if you can get a ticket) the Opening Ceremony at 1930, or Big Screen
28th - Croeso day 6: First "proper" day of the Olympics, but mostly preliminaries.
29th - Croeso is over: 15 more days of Olympics to go!
It strikes me that you could still be a huge Olympics fanatic and also compete at all six days of Croeso if the dates were moved. This would not be nearly as possible if the dates stayed as currently published.

I meant the later dates. OK - I've declared an interest and I've been looking forward to Croeso 2012 since I first heard about it, but I would have thought it was better to clash with O-Ringen rather than the Olympics. Even if Croeso was a week after O-Ringen, would many people do both?
