Did anyone else watch the bizarre programme about the British Outdoors on BBC4 last night?
It made rather a mockery of the British love of outdoor pursuits including naturist tree chopping, amongst other things like camping and rambling! However it surprisingly included footage of an orienteering event which was sponsered by William Youngers. Does anyone know which event this was - looked like it was probably in the seventies?

William Younger sponsored WOC in Scotland in 1976 and, I believe, British Championships for several years subsequently. Guiness sponsored the British Champs from 1968 - 1973 and you got free beer at the Finish

It's a shame BO have been unable to organise this type of event since.

I remember the time when the UK hosted the World Cup near Guildford in 2005. Hogs Back Brewery provided the beer tent carefully sited to give a view of the run in.
It may not have been an official spectator control but the tent was full of spectators.

It was indeed Hogs Back's excellent beer, but it was for sale rather than sponsored. The beer tent was provided by the admirable Peaslake School http://www.peaslake.surrey.sch.uk/ as part of their fund-raising.

While we're on the subject - the very excellent Hobson's Brewery will have a substantial real ale presence at the Springtime in Shropshire camp site near Ludlow over the late May Bank Holiday this year. There will be a full programme of social delights provided by yours truly and entries open on Fabian this weekend.

And the best event for beer tents is likely to be the Belgian 3-Days http://2011.3days.be/.

Good luck SINS ~ perhaps the provision of a beer tent should feature more often at our multi-days. The prospect of a thirsty group of potential customers seeking apres -O should be able to attract attendance ( or even local sponsorship) by a brewery.
I think the last JK I attended with such a facility was at Bigland in the lakes. Again well supported and sited with a great sceanic view across the tarn. They even arranged for a stag to take a swim in the tarn whilst we all looked on. Happy memories ~ the orienteering wasn't bad either.
An addition to the rules and guidelines perhaps

Was UNOC's "Blue Star" Trophy event from the 70's not also sponsored by a brewery?

Never mind beer sponsorship...for true beer lovers the only option is the (infamous) Cambridge Alc-O (held every year in conjunction with the more normal Sprint-O)
Amazing how quickly it can go to your head when you're running though..

A little bird tells me its Bringewood this year
Just the thing to soothe the brambles - mind I was skiing in Bringewood at Christmas, and the frost was hitting the blighters hard. The forest is as steep as ever, especially the Hope and Sunny Gutter.
Have they mapped the platforms this time. I will post a vintage map sometime soon "Ludlow Forest" - it covered Maryknoll and Haye Park bits of Bringewood. Sadly I have not got the 1969 Haye Park map.
