For better or worse I have just filed my application to become a London 2012 Games Maker (volunteer to you or me - but hey I like the sound of it).

Now the organisers have pulled no punches over what this entails - which definitely means no help with accommodation. i'm just exploring a few possibilities well in advance before I stake my claim on a park bench for the summer ( yes i'm up for the paralympics too!)

As some of you have seen - I own the smallest cutest caravan in the world - and as you may have spotted in CS I also have a nice pop-up tent! Do any of you city types have any ideas about what I could do with them (no rudery please) It could be a lot of weeks and I know of two other orienteers who may be in the same boat.

Mr H is not one of them as he does not share my enthusiasm for the experience.

To day I have e-mailed the caravan club and the camping and caravan club to ask what temporary sites they are putting up for the events any other idea gratefully received

Just updated my application for 2012, as I renewed my first aid certificate yesterday. Hoping to sleep on someone's floor / in garden, if hours mean I can't get home - of course, don't know where I'll be living in 2012!

There are camping sites at the Edmonton end of the Lea Valley regional park. About 20-30 mins train commute from Stratford (I think its a direct line, but not sure how long the walk is from campsite to Ponders End station - 10 mins?).

Cheshunt - Youth hostel & canoeing by river lee I'm certain t here is camp site too. If not Your tent could go in my Dad's garden not sure about getting caravan in though. Mind you perhaps the farms should be getting their act together and preparing fields.

Everyone will be trying to get a piece of the cake - like when the Open comes around. Here in East Lothian, a lot of folk will be on holiday in July 2012, and hiring out their homes to folk attending Muirfield. HMRC take a keen interest in these events.

You don't wanna do that.....come to CROESO and enjoy the first week of the Olympics by the seaside in Aberystwyth and take on the challenges that Teifi Pools has to offer (last year's OMM area and first time use for orienteering), relax at Aber Uni and watch the Olympics on the large screen tv's then top the week off with an Urban Race around the Univ/town.

I didn't know that. I was sent to look at the area many many years to assess it for use as a national event. I remember that I considered it very suitable, but have no recollection of it not then being used. Anyway I for one will be very pleased to go and run there.

If the terrain is half as good as the last Croeso it will be a great week, and the environs will be more salubrious - it looks a great region for the event.

Well I'm not saying it wasn't a tough call - and it was one that I thought I would not have to make as I understood Croeso was being scheduled to avoid the Olympics. That was obviously not the case so I'm looking on this as a once in a lifetime opportunity - but of course they might not want me so I may turn up at Croeso after all - I'm expecting to send some kind of Hartmann delegation anyway

With one metre contours and a sufficiently large scale you could map each individual tussock and have an awesome micr-O around the Day 1 Valley of Hell.

But looking at the map, Llyn Teifi is miles away from there (and looks quite cool and nobbly).

Croeso could have a bit of congestion of its own, since the olympics has got all the toilets.

I am not sure what parts of Teifi Pools we will be using but I expect it to be the western side. I have had a wander around there and it is very nice. I too remember the sapping tussocks on the OMM, took me 30mins to do 1/2km on one leg.

If you have seen the advance CROESO flyer the panorama photo on the back is of Teifi Pools.
