Microsoft appear to have withdrawn the Multimap URL that is used by the BOF website to display maps of event Car Park locations.
They are redirecting to a Bing URL but this does not apear to display the correct location.
The LOC website was also using the same multimap URL and was broken.
As a quick fix am using
getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getamap/frames.htm?mapAction=gaz&gazName=g&gazString=
instead for the LOC website.

Re: BOF event list and Multimap
The last time that we hit this problem (OS maps were taken off Multimap to be stretched so that they were geo-referenced, I believe), we switched to the less-attractive Streetmap.
E.g. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=46 ... &A=Y&Z=120
gives SP652142

Personally, I don't like multimap or bing; much prefer Streetmap!

Re: BOF event list and Multimap
I notice Olli's Fixture list facility utilise a link to Multimap in the form
http://www.bing.com/maps/?zoom=15&countryCode=GB&lat=52.0467620323&lon=-0.7429100009&dp=904&mm_src=maps&F
It seems he converts the Grid reference into long/lat coordinates in the link. This produces a map with the Event area Campbell Park in its center though sadly we seem to have lost the ability to show a red circle where the car park is situated. Not perfect but better than what the BOF event list currently shows.
The BOF fixture entry structures their link in the form
http://www.bing.com/maps/?hloc=GB|SP862395&zoom=13&mm_src=maps&FORM=MMREDIR This no longer works ~ I just get a map of the UK.
Perhaps Ollie you could talk to BOF to let them know how to overcome this problem with new style Multimap/Bing.
The problem with Street map (and Google Maps which I would use by preference) is that you need a Post code for your car park. Not very helpful if there are no houses nearby.

Not true. Try typing a GR - 2 alpha + 6 numeric (e.g. NY511164 - parking for Swindale North - no spaces) into Streetmap. It'll take you straight there. Better than multimap or bing because Streetmap uses both OS 1:50K AND 1:25K whereas they only use 1:50K.

Re: BOF event list and Multimap
Thanks Wayward-O I stand corrected.. Providing you don't include spaces grid references work fine.
Shame though Google Maps doesn't support Grid references.
I find that Google Maps is far better than any other mapping software at recommending "best " routes from A to B. I use it all the time for route planning as I drive for the Ambulance Service. Street map comes up with some strange ideas as to a sensible route. Bit like Sat Nav !

Bing (like the old Multimap) does have 1:25K OS maps, if you zoom in far enough. But there doesn't seem to be any way to look up grid references.

Re: BOF event list and Multimap
Thanks for the tips regarding streetmap.co.uk
For LOC website am now using
http://streetmap.co.uk/loc/SD158783
Our content management system has a form where the event details are typed in, with a field for a grid ref in this form.
The beauty of this format is that if a Postcode is entered in this field steetmap also looks this up.
e.g.
http://streetmap.co.uk/loc/LA80JH
Just a pity that one can not set the zoom level when using this URL.

Try changing to:
http://streetmap.co.uk/loc/SD158783&z=120
Valid values for Z are 106, 110, 115, 120, 126, 130, 140 and 150 depending on the zoom required.

One of my husband's colleagues passed on this website - gives you a 1:50,000 OS map side by side with aerial photograph. You can put in grid references or postcodes. I think it is good fun. You get to see the map and the terrain in one go.

Yes it's nice, but as its fame has spread I've found that trying to access 'wheresthepath' in the evening gives messages saying that the site has exceeded the maximum daily number of map tiles that it's allowed to retrieve from the OS site. Good luck!

Re: BOF event list and Multimap
I have just noticed BOF have resolved the Multimap / Bing problem by switching to use Streetmap.
So our event carparks are no longer all in Lancashire

Re: BOF event list and Multimap
If you want a Bing map based on OS map with a pin showing the location use this url:
http://www.bing.com/maps/?mkt=en-gb&v=2 ... v_&style=s
You obviously need to change the lat/lon and the TitleText (Kerrera,%2028Nov). You need to replace spaces in your title with %20

Is there any way to stop the annoying 'my places editor' from appearing over part of the map?
(Yes, I know I can click 'x' to get rid of it, but I'd rather not see it in the first place.)

Re: BOF event list and Multimap
Not that I am aware of, but the problem with Bing is that they are not very good at providing info to developers of ways to use it. Whilst Google has loads of resources on how to use their API.
