WMOC 2012 & 2013

IOF have announced the location of the 2012 WMOC (Germany) and the 2013 WMOC (Italy - Turin with the WMG).

So it goes:

2010 - Switzerland
2011 - Hungary
2012 - Germany
2013 - Italy

Surely should be BOF's turn as they have never hosted a World Masters Orienteering Championships

Can confirm - the first official WMOC was in 1998 (Novy Bor, Czech Republic). For those who like these things, the complete list is below. The first two Veteran World Cups in Lahti and Mysen were not IOF competitions.

Before it was WMOC it was the Veteran World Cup, always a puzzling name as there was always a range of winners, and never a cup in sight

So it looks like the Southern Italians (who were going to organise 2012 in lovely terrain in Puglia that has hosted MOC a few times) got shafted by the World Masters Games being in Northen Italy in 2013...

Let's hope the Turin guys will do a good job. There should be plenty of good terrain up there, though it is a shame the MOC guys lost out. They would have deserved it.

It is clear that there is no attempt to spread them around geographically - some bias towards continenental Europeans.

But Eddie, the WMOC can only be awarded to those countries which bid for it!

In any case, WMOC is probably better spread geographically than any other major IOF competition ...

NO I haven't. I entered and paid the then £400 return flight to Vienna (Oz was only £100 more this year ) for the Hungary event in 1980.

A serious knee injury meant I didn't bother to travel - indeed I've never seen the maps for the event.

I can clock up 15 (well, 14 as a competitor and one on the other side of the fence ...). But I'm sure there are some who've been to more?
