I am going to Czech in July to take part in the 6 day festival running in parallel with WOC. I have read the previous threads on TBE and get the impression that injections against TBE would be a good idea.
Does anyone know if TBE is present in the area? Have potential WOC competitors been given any official advice? Does anyone know of a low cost source of injections in the Manchester area?

I am going to Lithuania in July and also need the TBE jab. Go to your gp and you can get it for free (well I did). Go on the tickalert website and it has a list of all endemic areas. The worst are eastern europe, rusia and parts of scandanavia (finland mainly).

Have yet to see a tick in a Lithuanian forest................
I got my original jabs before heading to Ukraine in 1998... I got a freebie from the GP, but others had to pay upto £80 a shot...
Anyone travelling to the Baltics really should get the jabs... but you can get them here for a cheap price... but you'd only get the first one so don't know how effective that would be:)

Re: WOC2008 & TBE
I see that the BO news page has information about a 'tick alert' posted today - with lniks to further information.
It appears that the answer to my question is most definitely 'yes'. The area around Olomouc (WOC event centre) is mentioned specifically with regard to Czech.
So, I'm about to ask my GP if I can get it for free, I'll report on progress. Meanwhile, I'd still be grateful if anyone has experience of clinics in the Manchester area.

When one of my sons needed one for JWOC several years ago I had to pay £100!! A rip off, but as a mum I couldn't let him go without

GP says no, "go to a travel clinic". Cheapest I've found is £50 per shot for a two shot treatment, That's more than the air fare and event fees combined
The NHS direct site says that TBE jabs are not normally given free.

The best simple guide for overseas travel advice for UK citizens is http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk although it doesn't spell out which vaccines are provided free and which have to be paid for by travellers - or rather for which GPs can demand payment. One thing to consider is that GP surgeries do not always give travel appointments early enough to be useful, and this is especially true with rarer vaccines, such as TBE, so it is worth enquiring when you make the appointment whether or not they hold TBE vaccines in stock.

You also need a booster after 12 months (which your post has reminded me I need to get - thanks!). £50 per shot sounds about right - it's the cheapest I found in London last year.
