I don't think it's an ISSOM map. Which means the olive green is crossable

Oh no! This presumably means that every area of olive green on an non ISSOM map has to have an overprinted purple boundary to ensure that people don't enter it.

Just to add some more fuel to the fire, I found the following in the ISOM 2000 section on park orienteering maps (I was bored OK )

Permanent out of bounds
In parks and cities, one can expect to find several areas that are permanently out of bounds for orienteering.
Examples are planted flower beds etc that often serves as barriers (e.g. along a road) and could affect a route
choice if they cannot be crossed. It can be argued that the map user should know from common sense not to
pass these areas. However, for the sake of good will it is of importance to mark them on the map. The symbol 527
? settlement ? should be used (yellow 100% / green 50%).

A few points from the above.

1. The olive-green I thought was uncrossable for Urban/Sprint/City as well as in normal foot-O.

2. There are frequently paths/tracks/roads through various types of OOB which are permitted to pass,
although this should be stated in event information.

3. Since control 7 is in the middle of the green stuff, presumably it is OK to pass on the paths (but
not in the settlement/garden), and I would have taken that as a precedent for control 14 (assuming the
short lines going through it are paths rather than something else).

4. Someone said that since the line goes through it, it must be OK to pass. This is not correct, in Sprint/Urban/City,
lines are nearly always drawn straight, directly across OOB items such as uncrossable boundaries, water features and
even OOB.

5. Control cluster 2-5 looks great, although a bit less dog-leggy would have been better. When navigation is easy,
you need to constantly change length, direction and type of leg to keep competitors concentrating. Many will lose
similar amount of secs on a 50m leg as on a 400m one since any hesitation will have a big impact on leg-time,
proportionately.

As I understand it, in ISSOM you do not map minor features in out of bounds olive green. Large buildings, or road junctions, which may be useful for navigation are OK.

So, according to ISSOM, if minor paths are shown, they're not in the "out of bounds". The map says "You can go through the garden if you stay on the paths". So it appears the map is spot on, and if the control can be punched from the path, the planning is spot on too.

The tables for the Nopesport Urban League have been updated, following the Manchester sprint race. Only two people have two scores in the same class: Sue Lynch (WCH) in the Veteran Women's class, and Steve Watkins (AIRE) in the Open Men. A few male Supervets and female Vets decided to 'run up' on the long course at Manchester, so have scored points in the tougher classes.

Results: men, women.

Next up is the JK Sprint at Surrey University. There are more courses than there are categories in the Urban League, and the classes are grouped differently. This causes problems! Provided that we can get hold of a full set of course details (length and climb), the results will be based on minutes per (adjusted) km, with 10m climb taken to be equivalent to 100m distance.

Roger, thanks for running the league which adds to the enjoyment of these urban races. Many of us ran up at Manchester because the short courses were so short. Is there any way our scores could figure under our age classes? My eyes glaze over in the face of data so I'm not even going to begin suggesting how...
