Map scales (again!)

Re BOC map scales: the two relevant BOF docs (Appendix H Mapping and Guideline D British Champs) aren't entirely clear or perfectly aligned - The former says "Whilst the main map scale is 1:15 000, a scale of 1:10 000 is recommended for M/W45 and above and for M/W16 and below.", whereas the latter says "If the Planner and Controller are in agreement then a 1:15,000 map may be enlarged to 1:10,000 for use by classes M/W45 and above and M/W14 and below. The enlargement should be such that the symbols are 150% of those on a 1:15000 map."

Does anyone know whether this is also supposed to apply to the control circles and the thickness of the lines joining them?

As far as different age groups having different scales are concerned, I'm sure I've been to events where "Course 9" and "Course 10" (say) are actually the same, but with a different map scale - which gets round the problem of people deliberately taking the wrong map. Of course, it doesn't work as well if people know beforehand - so you can't have control descriptions available before the start

The size of overprinting symbols is given for 1:15 000 maps. The size of these symbols for 1:10 000 maps should be the same as for 1:15 000 maps. However, for multi-age competitions in which both 1:10 000 and 1:15 000 maps are used, the size of the symbols on the 1:10 000 maps may be 150% greater than on the 1:15 000 maps.
