We all have our points of view, naturally, but imho the "top people" in Orienteering, the "best people" (to quote another contributor to this narcissistic thread) are those who work selflessly week after week to put on events and to do the boring admin, usually at the expense of their own competive opportunities.
If you want to really p*ss off those unregarded toilers whose unremitting effort make the whole "elite" conceit possible, the discussions like this are certainly the way to do it!

The discussions you refer to there are about the competition at the british championships - and what happens with combined classes and different courses. In that context the top people are clearly those who are in with a shout of the top positions. It has nothing whatsoever to do with narcissism, but is a discussion related to the effect on the british championships.
and i wont even go into the involvement in the sport that the people (ok, person) you quoted have put in...
I certainly agree that the work of the unregarded (although I think they are regarded) toilers is crucial, and hats off to them. But frankly, I think in regard to what you quote, that it is a poor view. Obviously clouded by the fact that you view 'elite' as a conceit (taking the negative, fanciful, use of the word).
All in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the support fish, but if there's still anyone out there who actually thinks I'm an elite (or indeed, ever was) then that's more than enough flattery to keep me going through all this boring admin
