Anybody here from Chasers who can give some details on the conservation issues with events on the heathland on the chase? Got somebody on another forum commenting on how runners going straight across the heath are detrimental to wildlife, and looking for some facts to put them straight.
Whilst you're at it, you might be interested to know where some of your stolen controls might have gone http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/r ... ly_3302147

Re: Heathland on the Chase
wow, that's some harsh chat on there. not big fans of O are they!
Don't know any stats on orienteers affecting that particular areas but several studies have been done about the impact of orienteers to an area (one i think involving before and after a 6 day so 3000 people running through and area) and every time the impact has been almost 0. You might some of that info on the SOA site if you have a look.Probably here somewhere too but good luck finding it!

I'm pretty sure Donald Petrie was involved in some major studies with SOA - part of building the access case for O in Scotland

I don't think it's a scientific study that scruff and snakebite need ... not unless you were considering rolling it up and inserting it...

You could always just give the organiser of any event where controls go missing this snakebite's email address that is on his website. Though I'd prefer just to give him a kick up the arse.

Classic bit of trolling.
Of course these are serious hardcore downhill doods, and therefore own the place. Us lesser mortals are not to be suffered - I daresay that folk out for a hack or even taking the kids for a walk are equally hated by them. There was a time when mountain biking had one hell of an image problem- maybe Snakebite(may he have many of them - back wheel too) is nostalgic for those days.
