Like a brick wall.
I'm not complaining I'm just commenting how unfair it all seems.
I would like to point out again I am not talking about individuals.
This selection is about a group.
The Squad of athletes should be broad ranging and equal amongst sexes; used to pick the teams for competitions, when and where they are called for. It should be about training athletes as an equal group, in an equal group; to be the best. This squad should have the potential to select the best runners we have. A squad should therefore include those at the top, those in waiting and the 'up and comings' for both sexes in equal numbers.
We are NOT talking about any of the teams, but the selection pool that the teams have to be chosen from - if not, lets all scrap the squads and go on all known form.
Yes there are the SEDS, EDS etc. This is a good thing, groups of athletes who are training with each other at a high enough level to reach their goals.
But once in the squad, the members should be guarenteed to stay if they wish AND should feel confident that they can remain without jumping through hoops at every verse end, reducing numbers here on one side and moving people around on the other. Orienteering is not something for the short haul, people need time to improve - moving people in and out continuously halts the performances of the whole squad and unsettles them when it should be a stable developing entity.
Therefore, without losing sight of the issue, the composition of squad should be equal across the genders to allow for this widest choice of teams to be selected fairly from a pool of athletes.
I understand in the present climate some believe this may be down to money. It shouldn't be and I feel my principle of equality is still secure regardless of this.
QED.
