The latest figures on Membership of British Orienteering for 2006 shows a continued decline in those opting to belong. It would seem that the product being offered is less and less desirable. Surely the last thing you want to do is increase the cost of that product or am I missing something about simple economics here!
It may of course be that for 2007 the membership picture is much rosier. At least, it has been discussed at Council and at two Management Committee meetings, although strangely no figures have been forthcoming. Why are BOF keeping it a secret?
If it is good they should be trumpeting it so that we can press for more central funding. Of course if it is bad then we know exactly why they are seeking the increase in the cost of the product.

Your economics is too simple. You havent established the relative importance of cost against the numerous other factors that might be causing the membership decline. You havent established that reducing the money we give to our clubs and BOF will not make recruiting more members harder.
