Dave Thomas was one of the many volunteers who put countless hours into the sport.
A member of SN for about 40 years, he was British Champion in the 'Veteran Men' and later M43 classes in the 1970s.
In the 1980s he got involved with BOF, becoming chairman of BOF Technical Committtee as it was then (now both Rules and Competitions) for about six years, and then stepped up to become BOF Vice Chairman and then Chairman in the 1990s.
But his greatest love was working in the forest. If my memory is right he planned both at the JK and BOC. In addition he probably controlled more grade 1-3 events than almost anyone else in the sport - it was not unknown for him to be working on two C1/2 events simultaneously, taking place only a few months apart.
Others can probably add many futher contributions.
He will be sadly missed.

For those of us who started orienteering in the 70's, David was the epitimy. He did so much for the sport, worked so hard and enjoyed his sport so much. As said before he must have controlled so many events. I was only thinking about him couple of datys ago, and wondering how he was. Our sympathies to all his family.
