I think part of the attraction of adventure racing and the renaissance women's road running is the kit. The rat race gives everyone a t-shirt (although at 80 quid entry fee it is not exactly giving) which gives it a uniform look.
So maybe there should be a kit check at the start, not for safety but for fashion taste. That could do more to attract the public to the sport.

Just for reference, the Rat Race doesn't have bibs - it has race (technical) t-shirts and pin-on numbers. ACE Races has bibs, and I find these fine to run in - though something more minimal might be preferable so you can wear an O-top with club colours underneath (I often strip down to just the bib at ACEs) I think I may have forgotten to hand mine back at the end of this year, so could pop round and show you, Mrs H. if interested.

Sprint Racing
Date for your diary, we are holding the Inter Services Sprint Champs at HMS Sultan in Gosport on Sat 3 Nov 07, day before Nov Classic. It will also be open to the general public and you will get the chance to run around these unique naval barracks which includes a couple of forts with moats (possible route choice of long run around or canoe across the moat!), underpasses, bridges, helicopter parks and also we don't have to worry about controls going walkabout.
The Around Aldershot race is also going to happen again on Sat 30 Dec 06 and will include a section on the new street map of Aldershot for bikers and runners.

Don't sprint rules make bodies of water impassable (otherwise surely only swimming should be allowed)?
