BBC Breakfast wants to do some spots on minority sports. There's no very good reason why it shouldn't be us! Look at

If enough of us go on to the website and push for it, maybe we can get
them to do a feature on Orienteering.
BBC Breakfast - a chance for a minority sport - why not us?

To help those doing a posting on the BBC site, any ideas why?
The BBC minion processing these requests will no doubt have been briefed to ignore identical, generic requests. Much better, I suspect, to see many people enthusing about the sport in different ways. Hopefully all of us can do this.

that's no fun Neil! I'm not looking for a standard letter for cut and pasting, just ideas, bullet points if you like of positive things from other viewpoints. For example I don't have children so am less likely to see the positive stuff about orienteering for families. If nothing else, it might help us sell the sport to people we meet and might be interested.

The people with children will sell it for families - I think Neil is saying sell it for you, because the wider the range of people who sing it's praises the more likely it is to get noticed.
Will? We've got proper fire now!

I pointed this BBC offer out to Caroline Povey, the marketing officer at British Orienteering, a few weeks ago with a view to getting the little man along to the CompassSport Cup final (I thought there might be a realistic chance of getting him out of London as far as Newbury to run across Greenahm Common). Caroline contacted the Beeb, but as yet they haven't got back to her. Good idea to encourage lots of people to put Orienteering forward on the website though.

On the topic of publicity on the BBC we're hoping to get at least 2 slots on South Today about the Oxford City Race.
We're speaking to them tomorrow so I guess there maybe something on tomorrows show (Fri). Then they may come and get some action stuff on Saturday during the race, which will be ace given the high calibre start list of GB team members and Swedish elite. There may also be a follow up on Monday.
The image of fast runners legging it round the pretty colleges and lanes of Oxford is an excellent one to promote the sport. Showing that we don't just hike around forests in the rain and mud. (Although many of us quite like that
)
We also have a slot on local radio to promote the race.
Hope to see you all in Oxford on Saturday!

Well done, Cez!
The publicity for our events is often forgotten or a last minute add-on. Glad to see you're making the most of the photo opportunities of Oxford and its colleges to promote our sport. I also agree with you that this is a much needed example of bringing O to the people in the towns.
Now, who's going to organise the first UK City series with sponsorship and TV coverage?

We've already tapped up Yorkshire TV about the Lincolnshire Bomber Weekend for exactly the same reasons. If we can't get good publicity out of a very public event in a photogenic setting than we might struggle with some of our more obscure (but equally fulfilling of course
) areas.
Our modest little C4 on Lincoln South Common, that clashed with the Twin Peaks the other weekend, got some excellent column inches plus a photo in the local paper too. It really is worth the effort, we got free adverts for all our upcoming events without paying a penny.
Well done Riggwelter for doing the business

There was a bloke wandering around with camera and tripod filming the event. Don't know if he was from the BBC, or not though.
