Military League South

Military League south kicked off today with a score event on Perham Down. Great turn out of over 300 competitors. Tough course, optimum route about 11 kms, but the climb was a killer. Results prove that some of the more experienced competitors didn't quite get route selection right.

This League runs from Sep 06 to May 07 every wednesday except for a short break over Xmas and Easter holidays. Over 25 Events already confirmed with events scheduled mainly in the areas between Wimborne, Salisbury, Marlborough, Newbury, Camberley and the New forest. EMIT system used hence full results with splits published on the same day on BAOC results website. Individual and Team Leagues regularly updated, guest teams from civilian clubs welcomed and team trophy presented for best placed club in the league.
Entry fee per runner is £3.00 or less, todays event would have cost a competitor with his own EMIT Block £1.00. Hows that for value, oh nearly forgot thats with loos and the choice of hot cold drinks at the end of run. Anyway if you have a free Wed afternoon and you fancy a run, come and join us, you will be made most welcome.

Army Wednesday events are certainly good value! One of the things I like about them is that the format is varied. Score events as well as cross-country for instance. Occasionally you get something really unexpected, like a brown-only map for the 'A' course.

The web site is http://www.baoc.org.uk/. Two warnings. Venues sometimes change with only a few days notice. Occasionally, the event may be in a secure base with access restrictions, possibly requiring civilians to give advance notice. The usual "check before travelling" advice is particularly pertinent to these events.

Perham Down was brilliant - nice to have a score event that was impossible for the speed merchants to finish - even they had to use their brains and make decisions. The running was lovely - nice soft grass in many areas and fast

It wasn't until you were at Control 24 at the far end with 20 minutes to go that you realised it was not possible to visit them all!!! and then to have two big hills to climb on the way in!!!
Admin and Course were both good well done to the REME and SARUM.

Next Mil League (s) event tomorrow. I finished putting controls out this afternoon. If you don't already know the area is Westwoods near Marlborough. Absolutely beautiful area, forest is very runnerable and I'm sure everyone will enjoy Allan Farringtons the well planned courses. So if you have got some free time and want a warm up for the CSC/T come join us.
