Can anyone offer any hints or tips about this? I mean selection of your route over the next 20 to 50 metres dependent on undergrowth (e.g. brambles) or fallen trees, etc!
What is the best technique to do this? Should you always be looking 50 metres (or more?) ahead?
This was prompted today when I gained over 30 metres in 100 metres on someone else by looking at where patches of brambles looked thickest, and I wondered if the best technique is well-known.

i always got taught to not have tunnel vision, and to generally always scan the terrain ahead of me - this way you'll pick up faster lines through the terrain and also have more chance of spotting the control as you move into the circle.
i reckon its probably standard practise to have a wide field of vision amongst the elite athletes?
