At the end we were 6 lunches short on Saturday despite preparing the number of lunches ordered. This means that some of you took extra.

I think it was very generous of you to have done lunches for Saturday at all - my tribe packed their own (but they ate yours as well because they were 'nicer'). Infact they said the food was excellent and enjoyed the whole weekend - except for young Neville and the shoes!

Oh and youngest Miss H. is fuming because she was handed an M14 map in the girls Ad Hoc and despite that the team was still the fastest and yet are down as disqualified (but not mispunching) which is a shame because she fancied a prize and obviously had to run further than other W14 competitors.

Thanks to Liz, Paul and Mel, me and Mr H. had a lovely romantic weekend in Woodstock - our first childless break for about 2 years

Wales too didnt get veggie lunches on saturday.. but was only me affected.. though i had brought my own..i did get one on sunday so no complaints there really..

Adhoc, holly.. our last leg runner, was given a W18 map.. which should have been a W16 map.. but she didnt realise until we went to compare maps afterwards!!

Though i think they're only minor glitches really..i can't comment on the army barracks as i wasn't there.. but i enjoyed the whole weekend, as did the rest of the welsh squad, i thought the courses were good both days.. with a nice spectator aspect..was a good jircs to have as my last. Even the prizes were nice which makes a change. So a big thankyou to Allan, British Army and SOC..i think the entire weekend was excellent.


Are there any splits up yet for the relays? i cant seem to find any.. just simple results.

Gross - I agree it is the coaches, but know that some of the competitors were collecting their own lunches!!

Jene, Sorry about the mix up with the maps, that is a problem of not getting the declarations until 1900hrs the night before and having to make up the Ad Hocs in all sorts of combinations. Even the main relays cannot be prepared beforehand as we don't know how many teams each region will enter and they all have to be numbered according to region. I can only apologies and submit in mitigation that it was getting near to midnight when we got to the Ad Hocs.
As an aside does anyone know how you can check relay maps once they have been rolled up, without giving competitors a hint as to which combination they are on? Only way I can think is to have the map trees and then you can label them with codes, but that means more work putting out the trees.

By the way Jene you need to look within your own squad about Sat meals as the meals register we have shows the WOA squad did get the 2 veggie meals they ordered on the Sat, perhaps someone preferred your Cheese and Onion pastie to the sausage rolls!

Mrs H, you will be glad to hear I have re-instated Rosemary, which means her team did win the female Ad Hoc by 38 secs, I will see what we can rustle up for them. I also have the SCOA boys complaining as they did not get prizes for the boys ad hoc. I only gave prizes anyway because Ultrasport had given me 3 spare prizes, perhaps I should have kept them for myself instead.

Blimey Allan - I'm really impressed and so is Rosey don't worry about the prize - i'll buy her one myself - it'll be worth it to be free of the pain in the neck
Thanks for getting the relay splits up - nice to see young Neville doing what he does best 3 great relay runs in 3 weeks - he would love to be able to translate that level of performance to his individual runs but somehow finds the motivation difficult when it's just for himself. It was something he had hoped to be able to address on this year's tour - but as he didn't get selected inspite of finishing 5th in his year in the FCC any advice from elsewhere would be appreciated.

I would say it is simply a matter of focus.

You run good relays because you focus on your navigation, knowing that, for the sake of the team, you can't afford to make any mistakes. Strangly enough being totally focussed on navigation tends to mean you put in a better performance physically. The whole ante is raised:
"I have to do this as quickly and cleanly as possible"

Neville is clearly capable of focussed accurate navigation and moving quickly but needs the external pressure of "not letting his team down" to get into the right mode.
The point is that he can do it. But maybe he doesn't actually know what "it" is.
There is not much to do other than for Neville to analyse what it is that he does when navigating in these situations - comparing it to what he does in a solo run where his performance has not been so good.
Try getting him to step by step analyse every positive decision and action he took in a relay course, write them down, also write down the points where he decided to wing it - take a risk, trust to luck.
Do the same for a weak solo race.
