The nopesport front page notes that all content is copyright. Strictly speaking, BOF (or anyone else) has to obtain permission from the copyright holder before they can use mharky's excellent reports. It's not enough just to 'borrow' the stuff & give an acknowledgement - the copyright holder has to give their agreement first.

UK Patentes Office wrote:Copyright gives the creators of certain kinds of material rights to control ways their material can be used. These rights start as soon as the material is recorded in writing or in any other way. There is no official registration system. The rights cover:
* copying;
* adapting;
* distributing;
* communicating to the public by electronic transmission (including by broadcasting and in an on demand service);
* renting or lending copies to the public; and,
* performing in public
In many cases, the author will also have the right to be identified on their works and to object if their work is distorted or mutilated

This is interesting. BOF seemed to have confused two ancient journalist traditions. "The cut and paste" employed by busy reporters but only when they know the information is reliable (correct) and they can do so with equinimity (either they have permission or the author will never know). I have performed many a cut and paste in the days when it was exactly that and required scissors and glue (what a technological break through was the Pritt stick!).
Then there is the "Re-Write" when you lift another story do a bit of basic research to make sure it's right and mess around with the format sufficiently so that people might suspect it's been lifted but can't actually prove it. It requires a modicum of creative input, and thinking about it, it was easier and more likely to happen when you physically had to re-type the actual words.
The Boffite has not been very clever by not accomplishing either and Mharky has every right to be annoyed. I suggest pre-emptive action next time. I wrote reports on the 2004 world schools for both nope and BOf as i was following them closely. Sophie sent me a pair of socks, nopers slagged me off for not mentioning the Scottish team - something that was never part of my remit and for which I would have thought there were plenty of people better placed than me to do. One down to BOF man management there, but I haven't botherd since - it's not worth it for the agro.
It was pointed out to me yesterday that the departure of the EOC team on the BOF news page was accompanied by
So i think BOF have fallen down twice in the last week
Firstly, in view of Mharky's inaccuracies they themselves have "not let the truth get in the way of a good story" something Boffites are frequently hurling at Nopesport
and secondly been guilty of an "Us and them" mentality - surely the good wishes should have come from everyone at BOF (you and me included).
Lets see what coms back from Matlock (or wherever they are these days).

BOF have actually fallen foul of copyright issues in the past & used material to produce publicity posters that they had no right to.

The poor idiot that did the copy and paste of Mharkys report must feel like a complete fool now......starting to feel a bit sorry for them actually
Shouldn't BOF have released an official apology though, admitting what they've done is wrong, and offering to make a donation to Mharkys charity?
