Not me Paddy.... but I would seriously start taking the piss if BOF introduced a WRE where the runners could have a rest for two minutes while they crossed the road... so I'll just stay quiet this time & hope you all enjoy the JK.... shame I won't be there but the thought of skiing at Ivalo in Northern Finland beats the JK (but don't tell Ann Smith I said that:))
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

At Burnham Beeches, there were 2 bits of run either side of the crossing, with a stile at the far end before the second control. As the statement I quoted mentions, hindsight would have placed a control just after the road crossing.
Interestingly, even a couple of M21Ls lost time - not sure why, perhaps lots of traffic?

jk road crossing
The issue of 'too many guests' is irrelavant - look at the points being made.
Onto the JK road crossing.
Could someone answer the point above..
Why the timed crossing was needed for this very quiet, no-through road, when as he said the blue start courses didnt need one early on, and elite courses didnt need one? (Though as is usual, the elite are different, and superior? to everyone else.
Secondly.
As can be seen from the splits on the results, some competitors DID take more than 2 minutes to cross (probably from being tired, not because of waiting for any traffic). These have been penalised and any additional time has been added on.
The final details state that a timed crossing would be used, BUT not that only 2 minutes were allowed.
This was later added to the website, but not everyone has access to a computer. As this was not announced, or a sign displayed at the starts, not everyone will know that only 2 minutes were alowed, and anyone who has been penalised has a valid case for complaint.

Some courses' control descriptions did say there was a time out but others did not even though they both had the same time out.

I guess it was more because of the route through the Rhododendrons than for the road itself. Not so much pressure to race past slower runners in the cut if there was no time pressure?

In reply to Jayne, the second time we crossed the road it was described as timed out, but on the first occasion it simply said "take care crossing road".
This suggests to me that Tendon is right with the rhododendron theory!

On my (M40) course we had a 110m timed out, marked route leg between controls 90 and 150. According to the descriptions my daughter (W16) had a 140m marked route between the same two controls. Were there multiple, and course specific, routes through the rhodos that I failed to notice?

Yes and 2 minutes was more than enough time to saunter idly through the rhodedendrums. It only took just over the minute even behind 'slow traffic'
Not sure why this leg was timed out, other than to protect the bushes and stop them looking like the Americans had gone in. Certainly the road at this point had better visibility than the previous crossing place.
Great weekend, thanks to everyone involved.
