I agree - It was a great experience, one that should not be missed. (even if you just go to knock the american tourists over.)
I wonder how long they are going to be allowed to put this event on for. The numbers of runners is going up each year and it can get a bit ridiculous running through the crowds. I even heard reports of marshalls asking people to slow down this year. You can't do that in a race!!!
P.S. If anyone knows the couple whose photo i got in on the academia bridge can you ask them to email me a copy.

What a wonderful event! Despite having to walk round as a result of a cracked pelvis acquired whilst riding a camel in India in August 2004 (too much detail?), I managed to finish 74th out of 90 in H50. DVO finished 43rd out of the 294 clubs competing - perhaps because there were 15 of us taking part. The experiences of all that Street-O in the towns of Derbyshire in 2001 might well have helped us. The winning team from Sweden managed to amass 5,052,310 points!
As Old Lough notes, if you've never been, put it in your diary for next year - it's a 'must do' event. However, as I started at 12.00, it was getting a bit crowded around St Mark's Square and some of the tourists were getting a bit fed up being barged aside. An alternative to limiting numbers might be to start earlier in the day.
Great fun!

As everybody else has said, you simply have to go and try this event.
I've spent the evening playing around with Windows Movie Maker, and the results are at http://www.maprunner.org.uk/Venice2005_small.wmv
File has been compressed down to 5Mb, and the video comes from my digital camera, so it's not quite in the Thierry class, but it gives you an idea of what the event is like.

Try http://www.orivenezia.it/
Not the best organised web site in the world, and there's various things left over from years gone by. But at least you could enter on line and then pay at registration.
Some good British results that no-one has mentioned yet:
Ivor Noot 1st on M65
Abi Weeds 3rd on D Elite (and only 6 minutes down on Simone Niggli).
plus a few other top ten finishes.
