MicrO off the menu
I've just seen a press release saying that there WILL NOT be any MicrO in WOC 2006. If this is true and for definite what do people think?

I'd say it's true and for definite since it's on the WOC 2006 official site:

personally I think it's a good thing - MicrO's still too undefined and untested to be introduced as a world champs - it took sprint 5 years or more from PWT taking off to being a WOC discipline and that was a far less radical idea...

Yes it seems a bit of an anti climax after all the hype and even a training manual released by IOF earlier this week.
Still looking forward to trying out MicrO in competition but I think the opportunities will be fewer now. Overall I'm glad it won't be in WOC.

The Norwegian OF dont seem to be too pleased with the WOC organisers. According to http://www.orientering.no they are still negotiating with TV2 to get the funding sorted out...

I wonder if the little skit the Danish team did at the WCups banquet left a bad taste for any officials.
It basically was the IOF introducing more and more silly rules due to pressure from various little TV companies who agreed to show WOC at various mniority slots. eg. text voting to "evict" certain unpopular competitors, a dress code of skimpy bikinis/a penis holster introduced in response to the playboy channel saying it would air WOC.
you had to be there to get the full effect of the Danish team poking a bit of fun at their home WOC - it was very funny.

Hopefully! Now the IOF say no MicrO too. No comment as yet from the Norwegians.
