Scott makes some good points about the cons of holding office. I do think its the minority but there are definitely some who dont see the impact they have on others because they are so focussed on their own wee world.
I do think its different for the chief exec though and aside from any complaints we have about BOF in general, I think MH could have made himself a lot more visible up here in Scotland. He might have had some tough questions to think about but IMO his lack of visibility did as much harm to BOF's credibility up here as any of his actual actions. COntrast that to some of the recent BOF chairs who regualrly crop up at events in Scotland and are always happy to chat to the rank and file.
