I've had similar thoughts and sorry for the severe thread wander but does BO have a “national archive”? I assume not.
I have all my maps and results from my first O-life from 1979 to 1993. I reluctantly recycled my father’s equivalent on his passing away knowing some would find it interesting. It was at the time NopeSport was up for sale and my thoughts ran to wondering if an added facility could be a map/results archive based on a “you tube” model where anyone can upload their stuff (within an agreed format, size and naming system) as this would just require some server space and a few monitors.
Earlier in the thread the linked CUOC results page show the 1990 Varsity Match with location and date unknown. That's recent history as far as I’m concerned - I'm surprised such information is no longer known and does not bode well for the future historians.

Re: Bored with orienteering
There is indeed a national orienteering archive, which I believe is kept in Sheffield University library, although I confess to not having much idea what is in it.
The 1990 Varsity Match was at Strines. This is one competition for which we do have a pretty comprehensive archive - credit to Ben Stevens, I believe.
There's actually a nice bit of software available if someone wanted to set up and host an online British Orienteering Maps Archive, but I imagine there might be a few copyright issues with OS etc.
Of course, nearly all orienteering material is produced digitally now, and I've had similar thoughts about whether RouteGadget installations will be preserved if clubs fold - ditto GSPSeuranta (et al.) traces for major internationals if the host company goes out of business.

I was going to comment on those first British champs results. A good number of Olympic medals in there... All time PB's for 5000 - 10000m for a British Champion?

Since we're talking about old results, does anyone have a copy of the results of the ROC Concorde Chase at Bucklebury Common in March 1987, please? That was my first ever event, and I was so naive in those days that I didn't realise you had to fill in an envelope to get your results, so I never found out how well (or rather, badly!) I did.

Emma Pooley's Varsity match result (2nd of 2 on women's B) was noted on a Nope thread many years ago

I circulated this request tonight to Berkshire Orienteers members (BKO replaced ROC 25 years ago in 1990). I expect someone might be able to locate a copy. Incidentally, why not come back and get nostalgic - we return to Bucklebury Common on the 8th November. This will be the first event there for over 10 years. Details on the BKO website at: http://www.bko.org.uk/

The event organiser (Bryce Gibson) has contacted me - he still has many copies of the results. I have been sent scanned pdf files of the various pages which I could forward to you or the organiser is willing to post you one of his spare copies at the EOD price of 20p (I expect he would actually be willing to ignore even this). Please e-mail me [David (at) jukesark (dot) fsnet (dot) co (dot) uk] and let me know how you want the results got to you.

but are digital results preserved? Since 2009 major individual event results are in the British Orienteering database, but what about before that and what about relays, which don't fit the upload format?
I recently wanted to look at the British Relay results from 2008. The file was no longer visible on the club website and though I had a very helpful and rapid response to my query "You're in luck", I wondered what would have happened in another five years.
Sheffield Uni doesn’t seem a likely place to find digital archives:
Archive Hub wrote:British Orienteering Federation Record Files
.................................
Physical Description 161 boxes, 51 files and c.70 volumes
Scope and Content
Results files and newsletters of the British Orienteering Federation for the period 1961 to 2009, along with notes, maps, reports and publications collected by the Federation and by individual members.
.
Should there be somewhere else for digital results of major events?

Try using one of the internet archive services, e.g. http://www.archive.org.
BOC 2008 results are at https://web.archive.org/web/20080514024 ... Index.html
Routegadget remains live at http://www.boc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#3 too
