Not sure if he ever was good, but certainly in the races that I've listened to and watched online in recent years he's struggled to keep up with what's going on in the race or who the contenders are. Perhaps he's just got lazy and doesn't do the research and concentrate enough during the race.
I hope that if he is doing WOC that he has a support team that can feed information to him and keep him focused on the race.
