Not quite the answer to your question but I'm mapping some coniferous forest for an event in 18 months time. It has some distinct, some rather nebulous areas of wind blow the the FC expect to clear so as an interim measure I've sketched out the areas with a dark green cross hatch. I'll need to go back in a year and correct it.
I know its not IOF but it actually works well as a symbol - it implies its impassable (though you can see through it over the tops of the fallen timber) and is not confused with my holly / rhodo thickets. In other words it gives a good impression of what to expect but differentiates it from other areas that are impassable but of a very different nature on the ground. Of course getting such a new symbol past the mapping group is about as likely as Prince Charles following his mother's lead and keeping his views to himself.
