Ranking List

I know its been said before, but I strongly believe that ranking points should only be calculated for TD5 courses.

And the answer has been given about as many times: if only TD5 courses were ranked then most courses at most events would be excluded

(The rankings working groups did recommend excluding white, yellow & orange courses, but BOF decided that having to tick an extra box at upload would be beyond the competance of results secretaries...)

There can't be that many TD1,2 & 3 courses that have enough ranked runners on to qualify can there?
They are dominated by novices and youngsters aren't they?

Actually, at most events there aren't enough ranked runners on Orange for ranking points to kick in, but when they do they do they can get upto 1000+

I spent a few minutes looking, and couldn't find any, hence my (slightly provocative ) question.

If ranking point events have to be TD5 standard that would rule out all sprint and urban events as from what I can see these type of recent events are not much above orange level!

Well here are the results from the JK. This is M12A, W12A and orange so TD3.

As you can see the under 16's don't get ranking points (as expecetd) but the adults on orange do.

And where its possible to make a comparison, they get pretty much as many points as they get on TD5 courses. Given that the JK orange is on the bleeding edge of what's statistically reasonable, this is an amazing endorsement of the ranking list.

For TD3 sprint courses, when the statistics are somewhat better, the list works fine too. There are hundreds of examples of people scoring more points from TD3 courses than my best scores. I have looked at this matter in some detail, and reluctantly conclude that, these people scoring such high ranking points are better at orienteering than I am.

As pointed out by GML and myself on another thread, the planners are assuming this year's BOC will be a TD4 area. Let's see if the ranking list copes
