Southern Champs at Penhale
Great weekend of orienteering down in Cornwall.
Brilliant Urban event and the expected challenges on Penhale. Any sign of the results for Sunday going up soon?

Excellent weekend. Best of the year so far ...
Can't remember the last time my designated course was the same as Jane's M50=W45 (not that there's any good reason to run a designated course)!
Yup, I saw the better option

Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, but puzzled why there were so few courses for an A Grade Event. M65 (winning time 45 min) and M80 (winning time 76 min) shared the same course.

Re: Southern Champs at Penhale
I dont know the full details but believe that it was due to the very low number of entries, and permission was granted via some group or committee thingy to reduce the number of courses. Things then picked up due to the unfortunate cancellation of the BOKtrot and a few other reasons, but still not great numbers.

Just had a look. Very puzzling. M45 and M50 often share the same course (as at Graythwaite), but at Penhale there was 4 km difference and nearly 45 minutes difference in winning times!

M45L shared a course with W21E, M50 shared with W21S...

Until this is fixed you can still find the results by clicking on splits instead. http://www.cornwallorienteering.org.uk/main/results/non_xml/2013_04_14_penhale/w60l_splits.html

You have to go through the main Kerno site. http://www.kerno.routegadget.co.uk/cgi-bin/reitti.cgi

How does 21 controls in 4.9 km (with a 260 m run-in and a single leg of over 1 km) differ in 'style' from a Middle Race?

Good to see the Southern courses now up on routegadget - takes me back to happy days before returning upcountry. Begs a minor question for the vicarious / virtual orienteer when courses are simply numbered on routegadget rather than labelled. Trial and error usually finds me some names I recognise to identify the course combinations. Not having had to drive the upload part of the process, and recognising that there is a character limit to the dialogue boxes, I wonder if there is a simpler way than leaving it to T&E to identify which would have been the course I would have run had I made the effort to go?
