Sadly, I can't add my route as the drop-down for names doesn't show any.

I had the same problem with Chrome, Firefox was OK.

Ah. IE works too, so Chrome for a change isn't a good idea - though I've done oodles of Routegadgets with it in the past.

It worked OK on Chrome for me, earlier on today, and the dropdown list of names still looks OK now.

It might be a Java issue. I'm on Windows 8 and my Java Security is set to High (Recommended).

I use Firefox and I get the "empty names dropdown" occasionally. I've found choosing a different course then going back to mine invariably fixes the problem.
