Re: Championship dinkies courses
I know that Angus Harrington (M12, DFOK) has run a sub 20 minute 5k at a ParkRun and is probably the fastest runner in my club.

Well I don't know how his map reading skills compare with the rest of the M12's, and I'm sure he's not the fastest orienteer in DFOK (yet), but I'm sure he can manage the extra distance.

Re: Championship dinkies courses
and thinking about it as an example of what some M12's can achieve, there was an event I planned a while ago where an M12 was ahead of most of the adults on the "blue" course, including some quite well known orienteers (at least in the SE).

Ok the area is called "Downe Activity Centre" but it's mostly forest (albeit very small).

.... and at Moravian's event last Saturday at Aberlour the fastest male was a 15 year old. The fastest 2 females were a W12 and W14. Half forest and half urban (but with a marshalled road crossing where the course crossed a genuinely main road). Oh what a giveway.

Recommended winning time for M12: 23-32 mins - actually winning time: 27:30
Recommended winning time for M10: 18-23 mins - actual winning time: 21:20
The planners got it right.
And at Cold Ash 26:45 and 17:54
