Best event of the year

Well I didn't do a lot of the "big" events this year so here's my pick
Best Forest Event - Cookworthy (why am I the only person who really likes it?)
Best Urban/Sprint - Aberystwyth
Best Novelty - Wheal Florence
Best EVO - Croeso - particularly the Photo O
Best Series of events - NGOC Summer Series.

I cannot agree with all but.......
Urban/Sprint I loved Aber despite a mispunch, and the EVO was brilliant we spent several pleasant hours doing the photo O finding lovely parts of Aber .

I think last nights Brighton urban deserves a mention. Multi level, seafront promenade, hills, and even the beach itself! And all in the dark (and wet). Could this be the future for urbans?

I think that requiring a beach could be overly restrictive.

No doubts: night event at Disneyland, Paris.

For a sprint: Fougères - being allowed to orienteer around the inside of a chateau, complete with running along the walls and up and down the towers. An incredible Finish area

My vote goes for Montjuic, Barcelona. Starting on the 100m Start Line in the Olympic Stadium in Linford Christie's lane (but taking rather longer than he did) and finishing through the tunnel just like the marathon runners did was (meh) orsum.

All the better for it being a last minute cock-up by the Council. The start/finish was meant to be outside the aquatic centre but they'd double booked and so offered the race the exclusive use of the Olympic Stadium!

Now, there's a challenge for the London City Race orgnaisers...

Best event of the year - Deeside Night Cup on Birsemore Hill, superb area, fantastic course and a cold clear night - all made for a prefect experience of orienteering. Only jarring note was meeting 2 forwarders in the forest, these are the bloody great machines that move timber form forest to tracks... still I got the fastest leg past them - on the adrenaline of racing them! Thanks to Drew Tivendale for planning top courses.

The Blue course, 6.6km of very technical ground, is recommended. And excellent training for the Trossachs the following weekend.
