Autodownload butterfly variations
Does anyone know how you do butterfly variations within a butterfly variation in Autodownload? I just get an "index array" error when I try and add different variations to my course.

I don't think that AD supports this feature. If you are using Condes, you could set it up within Condes and import the courses as variations.

Not entirely sure what you mean by variation within variation, but I think there would be 2 ways of doing this. Either enter all possible variations as separate courses- so perhaps Blue1, Blue2, etc. or enter optional/multiple controls for those on the loops themselves.
The first method splits up the results, but they can be put back together with a little file editing as here. http://www.leioc.org.uk/results/2010/su ... plits.html
http://www.leioc.org.uk/results/2012/sl ... index.html
(These were one man relay formats , but the principle should be the same.)
The second method isn't as stringent on course checking, but may be suitable depending on the level of event you are running .

Re: Autodownload butterfly variations
On older versions I'm sure there just used to be a check-box that allowed butterflies on a course. It didn't check that a competitor took the loops in the correct order - or even the correct direction - it just allowed any permutation of loops from a central point.
On the version I have now:
First select the course you are interested in.
At the top there are two options: "Create Butterfly Variations" and "Create Figure of 8 Variations".

Check the AD release notes (http://www.sportident.co.uk/autodownload/release.php), search for butterfly.
Release notes for version 2.334.525.1075 specifically state that you can't have a butterfly loop within a butterfly loop. Later release notes don't suggest that this has been changed.

Re: Autodownload butterfly variations
The answer is yes, AutoDownload can handle variations within variations - but you may end up typing in the combinations you are actually using depending on the format of your data.
Originally Autodownload did not support this but more recent versions allow you to have multiple variations on any given course with each variation having its own list of controls. We moved away from only entering one variation and then trying to get Autodownload to work out all the possible variations as planners dreamed up more and more complex course structures.

If you have variations within variations the automatic creation of variations using the options won't work you, will need to either type all the variations in or import them via XML

Re: Autodownload butterfly variations
They worked in the example above - so long as the variations were of the same type.
